Clinger - Samuel B. Clinger, age 82, went to be with his Lord, Saturday, February 11, 2017.

He was born on July 21, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio the son of Harold and Cathleen (Grimes) Clinger.  Sam served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion for 57 years. Following active duty, he worked for the US Postal Service where he managed the District’s vehicle fleet operations until retirement. He spent the last 20 years working for GE Healthcare.

Sam was a strong supporter of the community and youth. He coached football, baseball and softball and served as President of the South Kent Recreation Association and was an integral part of launching the girl’s softball program and the acquisition of the 56th street field expansion.  Sam showed his support for youth and his passion of sports, teaching and competition as one of the assistant football coaches for Wyoming Park High School, including the 1985 Runner-up and 1984 State Championship teams. He also supported athletics as a member of the Wyoming Park Athletic Boosters, serving as a past president. All through his life he was an avid golfer up to the end.  Sam always supported his family and friends. He never missed a game or performance that his children and grandchildren participated in, and it was his nature to give the shirt off his back to a friend in need.

Sam is survived by his children Randy (Sue) Clinger, Jeff (Catalina) Clinger and Mark (Wendy) Clinger; his grandchildren Caitlin (Brian) Gierke, Courtney, Sam, Kevin, Nathan, Claire, and great-grandchild Noah Gierke; his siblings Thomas, Harold and Linda, along with many nieces, nephews and extended relatives.  Sam was preceded in death by his wife and true love of 58 years Ruth (Norma) in 2013, his parents, and one sister Audreye.
