BOCKHEIM -  Eleanore Bockheim, age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Minnie Hauman; husband James John Bockheim; and brother Wilbur Haumann.

She will be lovingly missed by her children, James (Julie) Bockheim, KyleAnn (Gardner) Lloyd, and Paige (Michael) Rohrer; 11 grandchildren, Liesl (Todd) Gibson, Sharri (Robert) Steen, Shale (Fred) Steel, Reed (Ryan) Derek, Alayna (Bryce) Bloom, Gardner (Maggie) Lloyd, Andrea (Albert) Chmelar, Adrienne (Justin Heideman) Bockheim, Joel (Brandy) Rohrer, Christy (Kurt) Meuzelaar, and Abby (Ben) Leonard; 19 great-grandchildren; and many friends, especially at Grandville United Methodist Church (GUMC).

Eleanore attended Grand Rapids Junior College, the Cleveland School of Art, and graduated from Chicago’s Vogue School of Design.  She was a homemaker, dress designer, and an arts and crafts instructor.  She appeared regularly on the Carol Duvall Show, WOOD-TV.  Eleanore was a lifelong member and served on the national board of directors of the Embroiders Guild of America (EGA) and was chair of the Great Lakes Region. She studied embroidery in Denmark, England, Ireland, Australia, and Mexico. She conducted classes and seminars throughout the United States and abroad.  In 2002 she was awarded the EGA’s “Teacher of Excellence.”

Eleanore was active in community projects and served as president of the Grandville Ladies’ Literary Club, a member of the Executive Committee of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, Chair of the Southwest Kent County Area March of Dimes, on the board of directors for the Grand Rapids YWCA, and chair of the committee that established the Grandville Public Library.  She was a member of GUMC for 73 years, and was past superintendent of Sunday School.

A celebration of her life will be held at 9 a.m. on October 7, 2017, at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave, Grandville.  In honor of Eleanor, contributions may be made to Grandville United Methodist Church.
