HOUKES -  Carol Sue Houkes, age 75 of Walker, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Carol was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Albert and Hazel Engman.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Henry and their daughters Heidi (Kenneth) Huizinga and Suzette (Robert) Foll; her grandchildren Jacob and Luke Foll and Kenny, Isaac, Lia and Zoe Huizinga. She is also survived by her brother John Engman, sisters-in-law Sietske Sinkgraven, Jikke (Teunes) Van Der Velde and Annie Houkes, as well as her brother-in-law Piet Schoon and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Carol touched the lives of and was loved by so many people. She was a lifelong member of Berean Baptist Church where she enjoyed serving on the Women’s Missionary Committee and thoroughly loved coaching the church quiz team for many years. These were “her quiz kids” who she loved and loved sharing God‘s Word with them. Carol was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and friend. The joy of her life were her six grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed and she would want everyone to keep in mind that she is now with Jesus.

Her family will greet visitors Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Van Strien-Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield, N.E., Grand Rapids and Friday, December 8, 2017 from 12 - 1 p.m. at Berean Baptist Church, 1574 Coit, N.E., Grand Rapids.  Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Berean Baptist Church with Pastor Marcus Little officiating.
